Dissertation
Handbook
Preparing a Dissertation
or Thesis manuscript is a time-consuming and rewarding experience.
The Graduate School has developed the Dissertation
Handbook to guide you through manuscript preparation and to
help you create a uniform and visually clear document.
Visit the Dissertation
Handbook web site before you begin assembling your manuscript.
Then, visit and refer to it frequently throughout the process. Additional
questions may be directed to the Graduate
School (215-204-1380).
Style
Manual
An
important step in manuscript preparation is choosing a department-approved
manuscript style manual. The Dissertation Handbook is NOT a style
manual. Style manuals are available for purchase at major bookstores.
They are an essential reference tool when writing your thesis or
dissertation. Talk to your adviser concerning the style that is
appropriate for your discipline. Approved style guides are located
in the appendix to the Dissertation Handbook. Common manuals include
the American Psychological Association (APA), Modern Language Association
(MLA), and University of Chicago Style Manual.
Workshops
The
Office of Computer Services offers workshops in using word processing
and statistical tools for your thesis or dissertation. They are
not a replacement for the Dissertation Handbook or style manuals.
These workshops are offered throughout the year. For seminar
information or call 215-204-5555.
