Writing Tutoring


The writing tutoring service provides support for students who are working on papers for classes, as well as cover letters, resumes, scholarship essays, creative writing, and any other texts students are working on.

Tutors meet one-on-one with students and provide feedback on their drafts-in-progress, as well as advice about how to develop effective processes and habits. In a typical tutoring session, the tutor will ask questions about the assignment and the draft, and together the tutor and the student will decide what aspect of the paper to focus on. By the end of the session, you and the tutor will have identified a learning “takeaway” and next steps.

Writing Center tutoring is open to all currently enrolled Temple students, including undergraduate and graduate students. Students can access tutoring in any of the following ways:

Walk-in tutoring

Come to the Writing Center and meet with a tutor for 25 minutes

How to access:

Check in at the reception desk in the Writing Center. You’ll meet with the first available tutor.


In-person Tutoring Appointment

Come to the Writing Center and meet with a tutor for 45-50 minutes

How to access:

Log-in to our appointment system and select an available time.
Note: appointments must be made 24 hours in advance


Online Tutoring Appointment

Meet with a tutor online (in real time) for 45-50 minutes

How to access:

Log-in to our appointment system and select an available time. Use the drop-down box to select “online tutoring.”
Note: appointments must be made 24 hours in advance


Email Tutoring Appointment

Upload your paper, and receive written, email feedback at the end of your appointment time.

How to access:

Note: appointments must be made 24 hours in advance


Spanish Tutoring Appointment

Meet with a Spanish writing tutor, either in-person or online.

How to access:

Log-in to our appointment system and go to the "Limit to" drop-down box. Use the drop-down box to select "Spanish." You will see a filtered list of Spanish tutors, and you can then make an appointment, either e-tutoring or in-person.

Read-Ahead tutoring

For students who will have at least 15 pages of text completed by the time of the appointment. Send your paper ahead of time so the tutor can read it before your session. Then meet with the tutor in person for 45-50 minutes.
