Fieldwork and Internships

The Temple MPH fieldwork experience encourages you to apply the theories and techniques you learn to real-world scenarios in health services or public health organizational settings, preparing you to launch your career.

MPH students gain valuable experience over the course of two semester-long fieldwork courses (250 hours in total). You will have access to placements with more than 175 community agency partners in Philadelphia and the surrounding counties. These partners include government institutions, healthcare systems, nonprofit or community health organizations and public health agencies.

MPH faculty and staff members will help you identify a placement site that matches your professional goals and interests. During your placement, you will develop strong relationships at your placement site through hands-on work and guidance from your fieldwork supervisor.

During your fieldwork experience, you will use data and empirical evidence to identify a public health problem, and then leverage public health models to develop and implement a feasible solution to that problem. At the end of the fieldwork experience, students present their results to community stakeholders for a fully integrated professional experience.
