The Bachelor of Education in Secondary Education: English Education is a highly focused course of study aimed at placing graduates in high schools or other institution of secondary education. However, the degree also equips them to work in

  • government,
  • grant writing,
  • human resources,
  • marketing,
  • nonprofit organizations,
  • technical writing,
  • training and development,
  • youth or afterschool programs and many other areas.


All College of Education majors must complete field experiences to practice working with children, adolescents or adults in classrooms, training centers or community organizations.

Education majors will observe a professional teacher’s instructional and classroom management methods. Review the Teacher Education Field Handbook for an overview. The Office of Field Placement helps students find appropriate classroom assignments.

Field Experience & Student Teaching 

As part of your academic program, you will gain firsthand knowledge in classrooms through immersive field placements and student teaching experiences.

    Voluntary Internships

    Internships give you opportunities to get hands-on experience, refine your understanding of your coursework and make professional contacts who can assist your future career development. Internships are voluntary experiences that take place outside of the program curriculum: students do not receive credit for internships.
