Bachelor of Science in Event and Entertainment Management

Develop, organize and execute events of all sizes with the Bachelor of Science in Event and Entertainment Management in the School of Sport, Tourism and Hospitality Management at Temple University. In this 125-credit undergraduate degree program, you will gain the knowledge, skill set and tools to become a leader in the event and entertainment space.

Graduates who combine a strong business foundation with entrepreneurial and marketing expertise are in high demand. As an Event and Entertainment Management Major, you’ll navigate the landscape of event management in Philadelphia, a city renowned for its vast entertainment offerings. 

In this program, you will gain theoretical and practical knowledge of the current event market and learn industry-specific software and technology tools that aid in innovating and improving the guest experience. Students may elect to choose one of two concentrations, Live Entertainment or Tourism and Hospitality Management, to further tailor their experience.

Prepare for a career in management by gaining experience in various events across the industry, including

  • digital media events;

  • fairs;

  • festivals;

  • film events;

  • historical, cultural and educational exhibits;

  • live performances within events;

  • meetings;

  • social events;

  • trade shows; and

  • weddings.   

Students in the program work collaboratively with fellow classmates and local industry professionals, gaining firsthand experience at well-known companies within the global event and entertainment trade. Graduates will be prepared to

  • solve event-industry issues through the application of current, objective and relevant information;
  • make decisions based on the interpretation of numerical information; and
  • demonstrate global citizenship through intercultural fluency and community inclusion.

You can focus on Event and Entertainment Management or you can take one of the following optional concentrations.

  • Live Entertainment

    Learn to organize concerts, shows, and theater performances with the Live Entertainment concentration. This 12-credit concentration will consist of electives from the Theater Department, allowing students to immerse themselves in the behind-the-scenes technical aspects of live events. Courses include Lighting Design I, Scene Design I, Stage Management I, and Theater Management I.

  • Tourism and Hospitality Management

    Enhance your skills in developing unforgettable events with the Tourism and Hospitality Management concentration. Industry-experienced faculty members will share their knowledge to prepare you for a hands-on role in the event space. Courses in this 12-credit concentration include Business of Social Events and Weddings, Designing Tourism Experiences, Destination Management Organizations, and Gaming and Casino Management.

Classes & Curriculum

The curriculum for the Event and Entertainment Management major is a blend of classroom and fieldwork that is designed to be completed in eight semesters. All classes for the 125 credit-hour program are held at Temple’s Main Campus. Courses include the following.

  • Foundations of Event and Entertainment Management
  • Legal Issues in Tourism and Hospitality
  • Organization Management of Event and Entertainment Management

Students are also required to complete two internships to earn the degree, and will have the opportunity to explore a diverse range of internship and career options in their desired field through courses such as the Career Exploration and Development Seminar.
