How to Apply

Fee: $60 for the online application

Process: Complete a graduate application online.

To apply you must have a bachelor’s degree. A minimum 3.0 GPA is required for admission, but exceptions are made in some cases.  Most applicants have an undergraduate degree in one of the natural sciences, computer science or mathematics. Graduates from other fields will need to take prerequisite courses.

Application Components

  1. Recommendations: Submit three letters from college or university faculty, preferably those in laboratory science areas, who are familiar with your academic and/or research abilities. Letters may be sent to

Prerequisite Coursework: Applicants should have a solid background in biology and should have taken at least eight undergraduate biology courses and one year each of chemistry, physics and calculus. The Biology Department Graduate Committee may allow exceptions to these course requirements after review.
  3. Statement of Goals: In approximately 500-1,000 words outline your interest in Temple's program. Include your academic achievements, your research goals, and the names of up to three faculty members with whom you would like to conduct your master’s research thesis.
  4. GRE: Submit a combined minimum test score of 300 on the quantitative and verbal reasoning sections. 

Additional Requirements for International Applicants

  1. TOEFL: Minimum scores are 90 iBT or 575 PBT for international applicants.

Application Deadlines 

  • Fall:  January 15; December 15 international
  • Spring:  October 15; August 1 international (Fall matriculation recommended)
