Applied Behavior Analysis Graduate Certificate

The Applied Behavior Analysis Graduate Certificate program in the College of Education teaches students how to assist children with special educational needs while also increasing their professional contributions to their educational, nonprofit or social services organizations.

This graduate-level certificate program teaches you

  • effective instructional strategies for teaching students with autism spectrum disorders,
  • ethical practices for behavioral analysts,
  • implementation of a behavioral change program,
  • theoretical foundations of behavioral analysis and more.

The Applied Behavior Analysis Graduate Certificate also provides the opportunity to earn onsite clinical experience through Temple’s Psychoeducational Clinic, which offers comprehensive psychoeducational evaluations for adolescents, children and young adults who are experiencing academic difficulties.

Program coursework fulfills the requirements of the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) but does not culminate in a degree.

Educational or social services professionals who would like to achieve BACB certification without enrolling in a graduate degree program are excellent candidates for this graduate-level, continuing education certificate program.

Credit Requirements

To earn the Graduate Certificate in Applied Behavioral Analysis, you must complete six graduate-level courses (18 credits) in applied behavior analysis. Though up to nine of those credits may be applied to the Master of Science in Education in Behavior Analysis, completion of the certificate program does not guarantee admission to the graduate program.

Non-matriculated students may transfer up to nine credits of coursework before enrolling in the certificate program.

Delivery method (online, in-person or hybrid)

All courses are delivered in the classroom on Temple’s Main Campus in Philadelphia. You can enroll part- or full-time and have up to two years to complete the certificate program.

Tuition rates are set annually by the university and are affected by multiple factors, including program degree level (undergraduate or graduate), course load (full- or part-time), in-state or out-of-state residency and more. Learn more about our tuition and fees.

Pennsylvania resident: $898.00 per credit
Out-of-state: $1,231.00 per credit

Admission Requirements

Application Components

You must have a bachelor’s degree in a related subject; GRE scores are not required.

Complete and submit the following materials.

  1. Application form: Complete the graduate certificate program application form online; the portal requires you to create an account.
  2. Letters of Reference: Submit two letters of recommendation from school administrators and/or faculty members who can attest to your academic ability.
  3. Transcripts: Submit official transcripts from all credit-bearing courses you’ve taken at colleges and universities. These should be sent directly from the original sources in sealed envelopes or can be emailed to
  4. Statement of Goals: In 500–1000 words, discuss your relevant work or academic experiences, as well as your career goals, and how this certificate can help you meet them.
  5. Résumé: Include a current résumé. 

Additional Requirements for International Students

  • Standardized Test Scores: TOEFL score (international applicants only): A minimum 79 iBT or 550 PBT is required.
