Office Assistant Employment Opportunities
Office assistants are the first people students and faculty encounter when they enter the Writing Center. Their primary responsibility is to pair students with writing tutors, while meticulously tracking student usage patterns. In addition, office assistants are responsible for the following tasks:
Data collection duties
- Completing initial intake process
- Verifying that students have completed a New Student Questionnaire
Reception duties
- Answering any questions about Writing Center policies, services, hours, etc.
- Assisting students, telephone callers, and visitors
- Informing tutors that appointments have arrived
- Informing tutors when drop-ins are waiting
Lab Management Duties
- Troubleshooting basic Microsoft Office questions
- Refilling paper and toner in lab printers
- Clearing paper jams
Office Duties
- Checking the Writing Center's email accounts
- Photocopying commonly used forms and handouts
- Running errands to campus offices
- Straightening lab bookshelves
All office assistants must be undergraduate students with work-study awards. We look for dependable people who demonstrate excellent attention to detail, as well as strong interpersonal and communication skills. Familiarity with Word, Access, Excel and PowerPoint are preferred, but not required. The starting pay rate is $8.50/hr.
