Curriculum ResourcesCore Update - Transitioning to Gen EdEffective Fall 2008, all new incoming freshman will follow the new General Education Curriculum. All current undergraduate students (admitted prior to Fall 2008) and new transfer students admitted in the 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 academic years will continue to follow the Core Curriculum. English Composition Replaced by Analytical Reading and Writing Intellectual Heritage I and II Replaced by Mosaic I and II Registration Dates for Spring 2009 Replacing the Grade of an Eliminated Core Course Taking Gen Ed Courses to Satisfy Core requirements Advanced Placement Equivalency Chart
English Comp Replaced by Analytical Reading and Writing Beginning Fall 2008 Core English Composition (CO) courses (English 1002, 1012, 1022, and 1977) will no longer be offered and will be replaced with the Gen Ed Analytical Reading and Writing (GW) courses (English 0802, 0812, and 0902). Sections of English Composition will be offered during the Summer 2008. Starting Fall 2008 students will need to choose from the Analytical Reading and Writing sections to complete their Core Composition requirement. Students who need to replace the grade for English Composition can do so with Gen Ed Analytical Reading and Writing courses. Please note, the Gen Ed GW courses are 4 credits.
IH I and II Replaced by Mosaic I and II Beginning Fall 2008 Core Intellectual Heritage I and II (IA, IB) courses (IH 1196, 1297, 1996, 1997) will no longer be offered and will be replaced with the Gen Ed Mosaic I and II (GY, GZ) courses (IH 0851, 0852, 0951, 0952). Sections of Intellectual Heritage I and II will be offered during the Summer 2008. Starting Fall 2008 students will need to choose from the Mosaic I and II courses to complete their remaining Core Intellectual Heritage requirements. Students who need to replace the grade for Intellectual Heritage I and II can do so with Gen Ed Mosaic I and II courses. Note: Mosaic courses can be found under the Intellectual Heritage department name. Replacing the Grade of an Eliminated Core Course Starting Fall 2008 several Core courses will no longer be offered at Temple University (excluding the Japan campus). If you previously completed one of these courses and would like to replace the grade, you will need to either complete the course during Summer 2008 OR take the designated Gen Ed substitute. Taking Gen Ed Courses to Satisfy Core Requirements Core students can use General Education courses to satisfy their Core requirements. Select Gen Ed equivalent courses to satisfy the corresponding Core area.
Notes: *All General Education course numbers begin with “08XX”; all General Education Honors courses begin with “09XX.”
** Beginning Fall 2008, English 1002: College Composition (CO); English 1012: College Composition ESL (CO); English 1022: College Composition (RC); and English 1977: Honors Introduction to Literature and Composition (CO/HO) will no longer be offered. Choose from the GW (English 0802, 0812, or 0902: Analytical Reading and Writing) sections to complete your Core Composition requirement.
*** Beginning Fall 2008, Intellectual Heritage 1196 (IA), Intellectual Heritage 1297 (IB), Intellectual Heritage 1996 (IA/HO), and Intellectual Heritage 1997 (IB/HO) will no longer be offered. Choose from GY (Mosaic 0851) sections to fulfill the Intellectual Heritage 1196 requirement; choose from GY (Mosaic 0951) sections to fulfill the Intellectual Heritage 1996 requirement; choose from GZ (Mosaic 0852) sections to fulfill the Intellectual Heritage 1297 requirement; choose from GZ (Mosaic 0952) sections to fulfill the Intellectual Heritage 1997 requirement.
**** Students who have completed Intellectual Heritage 1196 and still need to fulfill the Intellectual Heritage 1297 requirement can complete Mosaic 0851 or 0852. Honors students who have completed Intellectual Heritage 1996 and still need to fulfill the Intellectual Heritage 1997 requirement can complete Mosaic 0951 or 0952.
***** GQ courses can be used to satisfy either QA or QB Core requirements; however, students required to complete the Core Curriculum must complete a total of two courses to satisfy the Quantitative Reasoning requirement.
