![]() There are a number of funding opportunities available to undergraduates beyond the scholarship and financial aid award provided when they began their undergraduate program. These include scholarships and fellowships, funded summer research opportunities, and internship opportunities. SCHOLARSHIPS AND FELLOWSHIPSTemple ScholarshipsIn addition to the scholarships offered by individual departments and colleges, Temple University offers the following scholarship opportunities: The Camille and Bill Cosby Scholarship in ScienceThe Cosby Scholarship is for rising juniors majoring in the natural sciences. Candidates must have completed a current FAFSA form, have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25, and register for and maintain a full-time course of study during the scholarship period. The scholarship will continue for a second and final year if the student maintains a minimum cumulative science GPA of 3.0 and maintains academic progress toward his or her degree (minimum of 24 completed credits during the junior year). Diamond Ambassador Scholarship for Study AbroadThe Diamond Ambassadors Scholarship Program offers eligible students a grant of $2,500 to help meet the expenses of a study abroad experience. Recipients of the scholarship can choose to study at a Temple campus in Italy or Japan, at any of Temple's other programs around the world, or on any Temple-approved study abroad program. Some - undergraduate scholarships - provide funding for you while you are completing your undergraduate degree; others - post-graduate scholarships - you apply for while you are an undergraduate for funding to continue your education after you have completed your undergraduate degree. Scholarships and fellowships typically have specific eligibility requirements such as a specific number of hours or GPA. Nearly all require a good to excellent academic record; some expect involvement in research or community service or leadership experience; a few also consider financial need. Summer Research Opportunities beyond TempleA summer research experience provides an ideal way to develop your understanding of a field of study, learn how to do research in the field, and explore your interests in continuing your education beyond your undergraduate degree. While many opportunities are in science and biomedical research, there are opportunities for students in a number of other areas of study. Funding often includes a stipend, housing and board allowance, and the cost of travel to the research location. If you are interested, you should begin exploring the opportunities in the fall when the programs for the following summer begin to be posted, and apply early. INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIESTemple InternshipsThe Career Center provides a valuable resource for students interested in undertaking an internship either during the summer or during the academic year. Internships beyond TempleInternships provide a valuable experiential learning opportunity - a time to learn more about how organizations work and how you can make a difference. There are two basic types of internships - paid and unpaid. Opportunities provide work experience in a particular field of study or an organization focused on a particular issue, topic, or concern. Some provide experiences in government-related agencies; others in non-profit organizations. A few also provide scholarship support for successful interns. Many opportunities are in Washington, D.C. and New York. There are likely others available locally in your major; consult with your department to find out about those opportunities.
