welcome

The Office of the Senior Vice Provost for Undergraduate Studies is responsible for undergraduate programs and academic affairs at Temple University. Serving both students and faculty, we are dedicated to undergraduate teaching and learning.

Undergraduate Studies ensures that the undergraduate curriculum meets university standards and supports our academic mission. We help to design and implement new programs, and innovative uses of information technology in teaching, and we are stewards of university academic policy concerning undergraduates.

The Office also collaborates with faculty curriculum committees on the undergraduate General Education Curriculum. Providing an array of curricular services -- the Bulletin, DARS, Course Descriptions, we work to improve access to information about undergraduate programs and information systems that support our programs.  See, for example, information about the University's General Education initiative.

We intend in all our work to enhance Temple students' life-long learning.

Peter R. Jones , Ph.D.

The Office of Research and Strategic Initiatives in collaboration with the Office of the Provost and the Deans of Temple University’s Schools and Colleges is pleased to announce a new funding opportunity to encourage and support undergraduate and professional students engaged in scholarly, creative, and research projects that contribute to advancing studies in their field of study.

The Creative Arts, Research and Scholarship Program (CARAS) provides undergraduate and professional students grants of up to $3,000 in support of scholarly, research or creative arts projects undertaken with the supervision of a faculty mentor.  Successful applications will provide a clearly focused project addressing a significant issue, concern, or aspect in the student’s field of study, include a detailed budget proposal, and be endorsed by a faculty mentor and the dean of the student’s school or college.  Program information and an application form are available online at www.temple.edu/vpus/CARAS.htm.

Eligibility: Current undergraduates and professional students in Dentistry, Law, Medicine, Pharmacy, or Podiatric Medicine are eligible to apply.  Candidates must have at least one full-time semester after the funding period.

The application deadline is Monday, February 16, 2009.

The grants are competitive and limited to approximately 45 awards.  Up to one third of the awards are available to professional student applicants.

One half of the CARAS grant will be provided by the Office of Research and Strategic Initiatives and the Office of the Provost and a matching half will be provided by the student’s School or College. The program will be administered by the Office of the Senior Vice-Provost for Undergraduate Studies.
