Freshman Focus Week
October 6-10, 2008

A week of informative, interactive workshops designed to enhance student success! Workshops are open to any Temple student, but are designed especially for first-semester college students. No sign-up necessary. Space is on a first-come, first-served basis. Call 215-204-2500 for more information.

Monday, October 6
10:40-11:30am Study Abroad Opportunities Learn useful information about studying abroad from representatives from the International Programs Office, School of Communications and Theater, and a student who studied abroad
11:40am-12:30pm Leadership Challenge Attend this workshop to learn about the Temple’s Leadership Challenge. The curriculum includes academic courses, seminars, speaker series, service opportunities, leadership conferences, and a leadership institute. Learn how you can participate in this program and earn your way to the LeaderShape Institute by participating in various leadership activities throughout the year and accumulating Leadership Diamond Points.
Tuesday, October 7
1:10-2:00pm Academic Honesty Learn about the Student Code of Conduct and how it affects you as a student at Temple. We will discuss academic honesty and how it relates to plagiarism and academic cheating. You can also find out how you can become a student panel member for the University Discipline Committee.
3:40-4:30pm Career Connections Find out about how to be successful in your career. We'll discuss resources available to you on campus to help you make informed choices, identify and explore options, and connect with prospective employers.
Wednesday, October 8
9:00-9:50am Preparation for Graduate Study in the Health Professions Learn how to best prepare for post-graduate study in: Dentistry, Medicine, Optometry, Pharmacy, Physician’s Assistant, Podiatry, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy or Veterinary Medicine.
10:30-11:20am Everything I Wish I Knew When I Was A Freshman A question/answer session with a Temple Alumni and current student that will provide advice, experiences, and ways to get the most out of your college experience. Important University resources as well as life after college will be discussed.
1:40-2:30pm Making “Major” Decisions Attend a workshop to help you figure out how to explore major options and learn how to discover potential careers.
2:40-3:30pm How to Use OWLnet Wisely Learn or review important features (i.e. your DARS, your financial records, etc.) on OWLnet that will enable you to navigate the web-based student information system more effectively.
Thursday, October 9
10:10–11:00am Pre-Nursing Attend a workshop to gain knowledge about Temple University’s Nursing program from the Undergraduate Director.
11:40am-12:30pm Don’t Stress!...Learn the Benefits of Time Management Find yourself feeling overwhelmed? Learn strategies to help you manage your time effectively.
1:10-2:00pm Pre-Law Information Find out useful information about law school presented by a Temple University professor.
2:40-3:30pm Satisfactory Academic Credit Progress Assessment and Financial Aid Representatives from Student Financial Services will discuss Financial Aid, Satisfactory Academic Progress, and answer your questions about financial aid and credit.
Friday, October 10
11:00am-12:00pm FOCUS on Your Career* Are you undecided about your major or career? Do you need help sorting out all of the possibilities? Come to this workshop to learn about our online assessment tool, FOCUS. Discover career paths that fit YOU!
