Name:  Kara

Hometown:  Harrisburg, PA

Major: Public Relations with a minor in Psychology

Year:  Senior

Club(s)/Organization(s)that I'm involved with:

Vice President of Lambda Pi Eta (Communications Honor Society), Psi Chi, NSCS

Place of residence in Philadelphia:  Kardon/Atlantic Apartment Complex

Favorite spot on campus and why:

The grassy patch next to Founders Garden.  It’s a great place to throw down a blanket and people watch, picnic or get some work done.  There are a lot of trees and flowers around it so it feels like a mini escape from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Favorite class at Temple:

Death and Dying.  It sounds a little morbid, but the class was really interesting.  I especially enjoyed when we analyzed a mix of artwork and musical pieces and interpreted the artists’ perception of death.

Piece of advice for incoming/prospective students:

Savor every experience—whether it is the stressful process of moving in to your residence hall, or even going on endless searches for the perfect college for you.  The cliché that “each year of college goes by faster” is completely true!  Freshman year seems like a lifetime ago, and sometimes it’s hard to remember details about different experiences because I didn’t take the time to really focus on them.  I wish I would have been better about keeping a journal.

How has Temple changed you for the better:

I don’t feel sheltered at Temple, and as a result, I have grown not only as a student but as a person.  I have been challenged both in and out of the classroom, and I love living and learning in such a diverse atmosphere with other students who also have pride and respect for the University and each other.

Favorite or “best” Philly sports team:

It’s a tie between the Phillies and the Sixer’s.  I was bigger Sixer’s fan when Kyle Korver played…

Favorite/best aspect of Temple:

I think it’s rare to find a university the size of Temple that still offers its students personal attention.  I love that my professors always make the effort to get to know me.  I haven’t ever felt lost in a class or on campus because neither campus nor our classes are overwhelmingly large.

Hidden talent or activity:  I am a Hannah Montana/Miley Cirus impersonator for children birthday parties!

One thing you never leave your residence hall/apartment without:

An umbrella!  Since I’m always walking around campus or the city, I never know when I might be stranded in the middle of a down-pour!
