Running Seasons

Directed by Y. Grace Park
Rhode Island School of Design, USA

A black and white tale about a boy's life that is symbolized by the inside of a train. As the boy moves from one car to the other, he grows older and the world inside the train becomes colder.

Director's Statement
I often related to people in terms of dependence and independence. I depend on this person, and that person depends on me. I don't need to depend on them and I don't want such person to depend on me. Sometimes being dependable felt very similar to being useful, and that was a very cold feeling. But I realized there was another element to our relations, and it was communication. Dependence is very instinctual and often physical, and I used to tell myself that just staying with and needing the other person was enough. But the cold feeling won't go away until I talk to and listen to the other person and teach myself to understand and to be understood.

Life on Earth is repetition of seasons. I wonder after how many seasons must pass until I find the warmth of trueful understanding.
