About Temple Gallery

The mission of the Exhibitions and Public Programs Department of Tyler School of Art is to explore and encourage experimentation in artistic practice and interpretation. The department provides a platform for young artists for the production and presentation of their work and a forum for the larger community to examine the most recent developments in contemporary art and their relationships to broader cultural contexts.

Temple Gallery programs connect Philadelphia to new artists and important conversations about art that circulate internationally. In recent years we have shown work by Cory Arcangel, Phil Collins, Paul Chan, Jesper Just, Kalup Linzy, Seth Price, Anri Sala, Berni Searle and Althea Thauberger, among many others. We have invited renowned guest lecturers to talk about art's significance, including art historian James Elkins, Wrong Gallery cofounder Ali Subotnick, and internationally-known artist and Tyler professor Pepon Osorio.

Temple Gallery has been an important part of the student experience at Tyler in introducing students to new art and including them in the process of organizing and presenting exhibitions and programs.

Temple Gallery is supported in part by the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts and the Friends of Temple Gallery.
