Applicants to the BFA program must submit
a portfolio of original work. Freshmen applicants
submit a portfolio that should consist of
fifteen to twenty works, completed during
the previous year, that represent as broad
a selection as possible. This may include
drawings from life; work in both color and
black and white media, design examples, photography,
prints, metal works, crafts, or sculpture.
The portfolio must include at least five
strong examples of drawing from observation,
regardless of the major you wish to pursue.
Select your best work and include examples
that you have done on your own initiative
beyond your class assignments. You may bring
sketchbooks as well. Do not include work
copied from photographs. Reviews are conducted
on campus November through March, as well
as at selected National Portfolio Day events.
Slides must be submitted for students interested
in scholarship consideration.
To request a
freshman BFA portfolio review, please complete
and submit the portfolio review appointment form.
Transfer students
seeking admission into the Tyler BFA
program must submit a selection
of 20 slides that represent artwork
from studio courses taken. We require
the slide portfolio instead of an in-person
review
of the candidate's artwork. A sturdy
self-addressed, stamped (with correct
amount of US postage)
envelope must accompany all slide
portfolios. All transfer applicants
must
include
slides of work that show five examples
of drawing
from observation regardless of
the major
you wish to pursue. If you have
completed over 36 credits in studio art,
and
are applying for admission into a BFA
major, it is important
to include slides of work that
reflect preparation for that major.
