The idea behind controlling and manipulating energy fascinates me. Almost magically modifying invisible electrons we create light, sound and numerous other sensory actions that add to and expand the tools of life. Whether a circuit allows an object to communicate with, stimulate or assist a user, electronics play a key role in modern object design.
Employing recent developments in lighting technology, I create illuminated objects which present a unique experience for the eye as well as establish an original atmosphere within the installed environment. Extending from the ceiling or walls of an interior space, the foundation of these lighting fixtures and all protruding elements illuminate internally allowing for the entire object to glow. Even the cords which connect one element to another illuminate resulting in a visual composition of light much like that of a drawing or painting. This illuminated line-work not only allows for the transfer of power from one section to another but also moves and flexes to fit its habitat. In the case of forms extending from the wall, this flexibility gives the user the ability to manipulate the position of the lighting resulting in various compositions. Pendant style luminaries from the ceiling also achieve a distinctive quality as the illuminated cords present a challenge to conventional lighting. Rather than simply illuminate a space, these fixtures transform their environment with unique characteristics and form expressed with modern materials and technologies.
