Aritst Statement

My current body of work has been influenced by a lifelong admiration and cultivation of horticulture.  Some of my fondest childhood memories are working in the garden with my Grandfather.   He instilled in me an appreciation of the intricacies in nature.  My desire is to preserve the bloom cycle because of its fleeting existence in reality.

With the use of new manufacturing technologies, I am able to create an artistic interpretation and exaggeration of my subjects, the wildflower, by using rapid prototyping materials.  These materials allow for movement, brilliant coloration, and texture similar to that found on the actual specimen.  The benefit of these materials is that they are long lasting and lend themselves to wearables.

My attraction to the wildflower is its accidental and random occurrence in its environment.  I am fascinated by the detail and diversity of form among each species.  My pieces intimately adorn the body and invite the viewer to take part in becoming part of the habitat, enjoying nature’s beauty for an extended time.
