Artist Statement
Evolution exists in the innovations made possible by the twenty-first century’s growing technologies. My work reflects the desire to evolve the definition of ‘art’ and the processes we consider familiar in our act of creation. Computer aided and designed art is no longer a new concept, but an opportunity to acquire more complicated form language and unique materials. For me, it provided an ample and immediate material catalogue in which I could design and engineer my work through the Additive Manufacturing process. I have an affinity for the luring qualities of plastics. Additive Manufacturing offers a world of printable plastics, each equipped with their own unique characteristics. I employ these scientifically engineered materials in the application of creative object design.
My current body of work utilizes the necessity for individuality in expressive art and the benefits of technology. Artists and designers are inspired by the pressing environmental impact of society. Every day, new technology and methods for sustainability are being developed. I implement solar cell technology in my work as a means to create lighted objects. My concern rests on the design of an all inclusive yet interactive object. This body of work requires a sunlit atmosphere. The domestic and office interior presents the window as an appropriate environment. Plant life lends itself as a congenital partner with my work, because it has a naturally engineered purpose and is often found within the same environment. Plants offer improved air quality and visual appeal. These window adornments are meant to serve as a way for consumers to beautify their surroundings in an interactive way by artistically arranging, grouping, and modifying the lighted planters. The playful yet eloquent essence of these art objects constructs a dialogue between nature and functionality on an imaginative level.
These window art objects have taken on the ability to delicately illuminate home spaces and nurture plant life. At the same time, they also integrate the growing technologies of the twenty-first century and the desire for personal expression in the domestic and office setting.
