Artist Statement
In my work, I use diagrams as a frame for exploring relationships between the
physical and the cerebral. Through use of scientific language I ask questions about how
we transmit and understand information, how we arrive at shared meaning, and the frailty
of our conclusions. In my working process, I mirror our systems for “knowing” by
rearranging sets of information. These works explore human form, microscopic
structures, architecture, and language. None of these documents reveal information.
Rather, they are illustrations of where meaning lapses. The subtle quality of the work
reveals small details, invisible from a distance. This fluctuation between the solid and the
ephemeral reflects my interest in the nature of the world scientifically and
metaphorically.
