Artist Statement
I consider myself an artist because I make things with the right side of my brain for the world to see. When designing, I also engage the left side to factor in the intended purpose of a piece. Using both sides of my brain to make visual work is what has always drawn me to graphic design as a medium—it both satisfies my inclination toward function and it fulfills my intrinsic need for creativity.
At its core, graphic design remains a unique medium in that it is intended to reach a wide audience. In my personal work I strive to meet what I consider a fundamental obligation for graphic designers: to capitalize on the medium’s reach and use my voice to say and do good. I hope to always create work that, even if small, makes some bit of difference in our complicated world. As importantly, I also strive to have fun. My work is a mix of serious and lighthearted topics, but always colorful and easy to look at.
