Rachel Dobkin

Artist Statement

Varying in scale and size, these new paintings consider the relationship between communication and cognition, the joy in connecting and experiencing. This work derives from both a conceptual and material based practice, with a specific interest in phenomenology. Some describe phenomenology as the study of things as they are perceived, as opposed to the study of being, the nature of things as they are. Hovering in an ebullient holding pattern, these paintings invite the viewer to play, rebounding between a finite yet open-ended series of queues and patterns.
