Justin James Reed  Artist Statement “New Cities:” This work is an exploration of the excessive development in suburban America today. The radical scale and sheer volume of retail complexes, commercial buildings, and office parks currently being designed are signposts of this ever-increasing development. Our technical and cultural infrastructure is covering the country, leaving us with nothing but monuments to our apparent progress. We are moving earth to make bigger homes, relocating plants and animals into hybrid environments, and creating commercial enterprise in featureless buildings resulting in homogenous communities. What strikes me most is the relentless force with which we are doing this. Currently, my work represents the east coast, but I am hoping to document this development as it is happening all over America. For now, by exploring specifics, I am representing the whole and systematically looking into the future of our landscape.
