Artist Statement

I love the hunt for materials. I am aware of the fact that I obsess over mundane objects that may not seem special to others. I also know that what I do…and why I do things is a result of an independent childhood spent outdoors.

During my time in the woods, I would collect things like sticks and rocks and plants. Then, I would bring them all home to be organized by shape and color. The repetitious process of collecting, sorting, and then creating is very calming. By spending time with the materials, I would develop a relationship with my surroundings, and an understanding of the properties that each object had.

Through my own means, I am trying to morph the overlooked into something that demands to be examined. I enjoy the process driven aspect of my work, because it takes me back to when my life consisted of, literally,
literally, rock/paper/scissors.
