Session I, Session II, Session III

Observation is the foundation of any drawing. If you are a new or experienced artist, explore a variety of drawing materials such as charcoal, graphite, and conte. We will draw from many sources- from landscape and still life to the human form, always from direct observation. All of the technical elements- line, tone, form, color, and composition will be employed as tools that facilitate experimentation.

This is a great class for those who need basic drawing skills!

DIGITAL DESIGN and ILLUSTRATION
Session I, Session II, Session III

The world has become increasingly digitized. By integrating digital photography, existing images, and found objects, students will explore visual organization to discover new design solutions. Technical and aesthetic skills will integrate design elements of color, form, typography and composition. This workshop will focus on introducing the computer as a design tool. Students will create visually stimulating work using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop on a MAC platform.
Basic Macintosh computer skills are recommended.

Please bring a storage device for Digital Design and Illustration Workshop.

DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY AND IMAGE MAKING
Session I, Session II, Session III

In this introduction to digital photography, students attain competence with a digital camera and with Adobe Photoshop to get the most out of creative image-making. From capture to print, students learn to optimize, manipulate and compose photographic imagery. Please bring your camera and a storage device to the first class.

Basic Macintosh computer skills required.

CERAMICS: EARTH, FIRE AND FORM
Session I, Session II, Session III

In-depth ceramic projects explore processes such as throwing, sculpting, carving and hand building to create forms of your own design - elegant or funky!

SCULPTURE
Session I, Session II, Session III

Plaster. It’s cheap, can be carved or modeled, smooth or intensely detailed, painted or pristine white. Our instructor will demonstrate fundamental sculpture techniques of casting, modeling over an armature, and finishing. You will work with an array of resources – plaster, wire, molds, and scavenged materials. You will be encouraged to use unfamiliar source materials to investigate sculptural form.

PRINTMAKING - LAYER IT ON!
Session I, Session II, Session III

A print is different from a drawing or a painting done on a canvas in that it involves the transfer of ink from a “matrix” onto the paper itself to create the image. This class will focus on image formulation through several printmaking techniques such as block printing, and/or screen-printing.  We will explore the multi-faceted processes that encompass printmaking with an emphasis on craftsmanship, color, composition, editioning, and layering.
