Students entering grades 9 through 12 are invited to attend.
If you are new to the excitement of creating art, many of these quick intense workshops are a fun way to focus on exploring new media and techniques. For students planning to apply to an art school, this is an opportunity to acquire work in a variety of media that is suitable for use in portfolio presentations. The workshops provide a time and place where student artists can immerse themselves in a studio experience on a college campus.

DRAWING
Session I, Session II, Session III
Observation is the foundation of any
drawing. If you are a new or experienced
artist, explore a variety of drawing
materials such as pastels, graphite,
charcoal and mixed media step-by-step. We
will draw from many sources- from landscape
and still life to the human form, always
from direct observation. All of the
technical elements- line, tone, form, color,
and composition will be employed as tools
that facilitate experimentation. This is a
great class for those working on a senior
portfolio!
PORTFOLIO PREPARATION
Session I, Session II, Session III
This Workshop is for students who wish to
begin, refine or expand their college
admission portfolio. Students will explore
imaginative, descriptive and conceptual
imagery through 2D design projects in both
black and white and color using a variety of
materials. Focus will be on selecting
subjects and techniques to create quality
drawings for presentation.
FIGURE DRAWING AND PAINTING
Session I, Session II, Session III
PLEASE NOTE: There is a $50 model fee.
The human figure is a gift to the artist.
Focus will be on figure studies from direct
observation- working from models, clothed
and nude. Students will study proportion,
form and structure as well as composition.
Previous drawing experience is required.
PORTRAITS
Session I, Session II, Session III
Working from extended poses with models,
students investigate portrait and figure
studies. Using a variety of drawing and
painting materials, composition will be
emphasized. Previous drawing and/or painting
experience is recommended.
PAINTING
Session I, Session III
This Workshop offers a unique series of
studies that will lead students to
creatively investigate effective use of
color, surface and composition through
painting. Working from still life setups,
interiors or landscapes, students will
develop a visual language. Individual
development is stressed through one-on-one
critiques.
DIGITAL DESIGN and ILLUSTRATION
Session I, Session II, Session III
The world has become increasingly digitized.
By integrating digital photography, existing
images, and found objects, students will
explore visual organization to discover new
design solutions. Technical and aesthetic
skills will integrate design elements of
color, form, typography and composition.
This workshop will focus on introducing the
computer as a design tool. Students will
create visually stimulating work using Adobe
Illustrator and Photoshop on a MAC platform.
Basic computer skills are recommended.
DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY AND IMAGE MAKING
Session I, Session II, Session III
Students will create fabulous photographic
images using their digital camera. Learn
principles of composition, proper exposure
and the use of lighting. Photoshop will be
used to push photographic boundaries to
create the final images and prints. Please
bring your camera and a storage device to
the first class.
CERAMICS: EARTH, FIRE AND FORM
Session I, Session II, Session III
In-depth ceramic projects explore processes
such as throwing, sculpting, carving and
hand building to create forms of your own
design - elegant or funky!
SCULPTURE
Session I, Session II, Session III
Working with an array of resources -
plaster, wire, molds and scavenged materials
like metal, rusted chains, recycled milk
jugs and various alternative materials,
there will be a sculptural emphasis on the
use of form, light and color concepts in
3-dimensional space. You will be encouraged
to find unfamiliar source materials to
investigate sculptural form.
PRINTMAKING - LAYER IT ON!
Session I, Session II, Session III
This class will focus on the wide variety of
printing techniques available - silk screen,
lithography, and etching. A print, produced
in large numbers, is quite different from
drawing or painting directly on canvas.
Printmaking expands self-expression in bold
and original ways.
