Darkroom Photography is a two-week intensive course designed for teaching professionals to expand their knowledge and practice of traditional photographic techniques.
The content of the course focuses on black and white analogue photography - from shooting with a manual 35 mm film camera to film development and printing from negatives.
Students will also learn how to set up a safe darkroom at home or school, and how to build a camera obscura—a great way to achieve the magic of analogue photography without the mess of chemistry and the expense of film and paper.

Students will have to bring the following supplies to the class:
35 mm manual film camera
Hard case binder for holding negative film sleeves, plus 10 negative film sleeves (PrintFile 35-7B or equivalent)
Box or portfolio case to hold 8x10 inch prints
10 rolls of 35 mm B&W film (Ilford HP5+ recommended)
50 sheets of 8x10 inch Photographic paper (Ilford Multigrade IV RC Deluxe Variable Contrast Paper recommended)

This workshop explores traditional and digital ceramic surface design techniques that can be translated to a high school classroom. It will be held in the new, state-of-the-art ceramic facilities at Tyler.
This two-week workshop will meet for three hours on Monday through Thursday with an eight-hour open studio lab on Fridays.
Techniques to be explored include slips, engobes, under glaze, washes, stencils, water etching, sgraffito, mishima, rice paper decals, commercial and iron-laser decals, stamps, digital printing, and lusters.

This 3D workshop is designed for art educators looking to creatively expand their
3D curriculum. Through hands-on projects, daily slide shows of contemporary sculpture, and group discussion, we will address common challenges of working three-dimensionally in the classroom and find creative solutions to engage students in the world of sculpture and 3D design.

This two week course introduces bookmaking as an exploration of the relationship of form to content. In daily workshops students will produce three sets of custom book models, each demonstrating a group of related structures – folded, compound and simple-sewn. Content for the models will be developed through a variety of techniques including surface manipulation and text/image generation exercises. The final project will be an altered book that utilizes techniques learned in class to deconstruct and re-imagine a book’s form and content. Students will share ideas and review projects through informal weekly discussions.

This course is designed for artists of all levels who are interested in deepening their creative process. We will focus on the Sketchbook as a house for ideas, and open possibilities for the Sketchbook to become an artistic object itself.
Through observation, memory, and response, students will generate and develop ideas in their sketchbooks that can stand on their own and also serve as a springboard for future projects.
This course will include elements of drawing, collage, painting, and printmaking.

Learn the fundamentals of mold-making through the multi-step process of casting glass. You will will review a variety of types of molds and casting techniques to create glass casting of your own in this workshop.
The mold-making techniques are applicable to many materials, some of which can be easily used in the classroom.
