General Remarks:
Before applying for funding of any kind, make sure that your advisor thinks that it is appropriate for you to do so.  Many of the funding opportunities listed here are available only to doctoral candidates.  With all applications for funding, you should begin the process ideally about six weeks before the deadline, and request letters about three or four weeks before the deadline.  It is also best to send the faculty who are writing letters in support of your applications a good, solid, clean draft of your application essay, along with the request for the letters.  Also send them all relevant information in a single email message, being sure to paste information into the email message, rather than asking faculty to search websites or keep track of numerous email messages with bits and pieces of it.

In consultation with your Ph.D. advisor, each student should be aware of any recently completed dissertations or current dissertations-in-progress that relate to your research topic.  For a listing of recent dissertations completed and current dissertations-in-progress across the field of Art History, see the following web directory maintained by the College Art Association: http://www.caareviews.org/dissertations

The list of funding opportunities below does not include prizes offered to students in recognition of specific achievements.  For a listing of such prizes, see the Prizes page.
