The Architecture Program is essentially
urban in character. Philadelphia
is at the center of a region that
offers a unique and unsurpassed
mix of resources and opportunities
for the study of architecture. Museums,
libraries, and other educational
institutions (there are more than
200,000 students in the region)
contribute to this vitality. The
program treats the city itself as
a primary laboratory of study for
the student. Philadelphia’s
300 years of history have resulted
in an environment of exceptional
character that includes many buildings
of international acclaim. The wide
variety of neighborhoods, public
buildings, and major urban design
projects serve as examples for evaluation
and study. Philadelphia’s
architects and urban designers have
made important contributions to
their art. Faculty members continue
this tradition in their own professional
practices, and through them the
students have access to the wide
range of professional viewpoints
and opportunities that exist in
Philadelphia.
