Applicants to the BFA program must complete the online Temple University application as well as the Tyler-specific admissions requirements.  The online Temple application is found at the Temple Admissions website:

http://www.temple.edu/undergrad/applying/index.htm

You must arrange to send the following materials directly to the Temple University Undergraduate Admissions Office:

  • Official high school transcripts and SAT or ACT scores
  • Official college transcripts for all colleges attended (transfer students)
  • Official A.P. test scores sent directly from ETS (where applicable)

At the same time that you send the above materials to Temple Undergraduate Admissions, you must send the following materials to the Tyler School of Art Admissions Office, 7725 Penrose Avenue, Elkins Park, PA 19027:

  • Completed BFA Information Form
  • Completed Portfolio Review Appointment Form (Freshmen only)
  • Checklist for Undergraduate Admissions
  • Statement of Purpose
All freshman and transfer BFA applicants must submit a separate sheet containing a brief written statement of purpose. Describe your aspirations, goals, and/or why you are choosing art as a discipline. Write clearly, concisely, and legibly. This may be typewritten.
  • Self Portrait
All freshman and transfer applicants must execute one drawing specifically for Tyler as an essential part of the application. The self-portrait should be drawn in pencil, on 8 l/2" x 11" paper from a mirror reflection. The self-portrait should be an original drawing and should not be matted or framed. This drawing is not considered part of your portfolio, but it is required as part of your application for Tyler. This drawing will not be returned.

  •  Unofficial College transcripts (transfer applicants or freshmen with some college credits)

  • Slides or a CD-ROM and a self-addressed stamped envelope for the return of the slides or CD (for transfer applicants, freshman applicants living at a considerable distance from Tyler, or applicants for scholarship consideration)
