This training is an introduction to Self-Determination, which is a way to think about how to live and how to get the services you need. You will learn how a civil rights movement has worked to get full civil rights for people with disabilities. You will learn about the five principles for Self-Determination—Freedom, Authority, Support, Responsibility, and Self-Advocacy—and steps to take toward becoming a self-determined person.
Each FREE training module is two hours in length. Resource materials are provided to each family free of charge, and all participants receive handouts and a certificate of completion for each presentation. We offer Act 48 credits and some reimbursement, such as mileage and child care to families upon request. All Partnership curricula are available in alternate formats upon request. Request for alternate formats should be made two weeks before the scheduled training.
