Inaugural Theater, Film & Media Art Tribute Award

We will present the inaugural Theater, Film & Media Arts Tribute Award to Joy Abbott for her advocacy for the preservation of American musical theater.

Joy Abbott is a longtime patron of the arts. Prior to her marriage to legendary Broadway playwright, director and producer George Abbott, Mrs. Abbott enjoyed success as a performer, business woman and producer of musical fashion productions. In past years, she has written and directed several celebrity theater benefits. In 2007, Mrs. Abbott announced the bequest of her share of the rights and future royalties from her husband’s earnings to fund the George and Joy Abbott Center for Musical Theater at Temple University. This transformational gift has inspired the growth of the musical theater program at Temple University and new opportunities for our students.

We’ll celebrate Mrs. Abbott’s accomplishments alongside those of our musical theater program at the Temple Theaters production of Brigadoon on Saturday, October 25 at 7:30pm in Tomlinson Theater.
