Temple athletes thrive at home games and on the road, on the field or court and in the stands.
One of the first universities in the United States to sponsor athletics programs, Temple's athletic legacy includes 10 national-level hall of fame coaches and numerous alumni on national and Olympic teams. The same drive for excellence motivates today's student-athletes:
Instituted by the NCAA, the academic progress rate (APR) measures the academic performance of Division I student-athletes. During the 2007-08 academic year, 11 Temple teams received perfect APR scores.
The men's and women's basketball teams, both of which competed in the 2009 NCAA Tournament, have strengthened ties in the community through their participation in Philadelphia's Big Brothers Big Sisters program and more. Temple football players performed more than 1,000 hours of service in spring 2008 through the Owl Outreach program. And together, 10 Temple teams provided food and other help to those in need in spring 2009.
