Stanley C. Tuttleman, a businessman and philanthropist who was a generous friend of Temple University, died last Thursday. He was 87.
"Mr. Tuttleman and his wife, Edna, have been among Temple University's most committed advisers and supporters," said Temple President Ann Weaver Hart. "Their contributions are visible throughout campus, from the high-tech Tuttleman Learning Center to the Tuttleman Counseling Center, where students can receive help making the transition from high school to college.
"On behalf of the entire University community, I extend our deepest sympathies to Mrs. Tuttleman at this time of great loss for her, her entire family, and for Temple."
The Tuttlemans’ commitment to culture, the arts and education is nowhere more evident than on Temple’s Main Campus, where their generous gift to Mrs. Tuttleman’s alma mater made the University’s 128,000-square-foot multi-media Learning Center a reality in 1999. It was the first academic building to be constructed on the campus in 20 years. In announcing the gift, Edna Tuttleman said, “Stan and I perceive Temple to be the key to Philadelphia’s advanced education for its citizens. Temple’s continued presence on North Broad Street was the basis for my campaigning for president of my class in 1942. I continue to believe in it.”
Stanley Tuttleman’s philanthropy is evident throughout the Philadelphia region. He funded the Tuttleman Contemporary Art Gallery at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Franklin Institute’s Tuttleman Omniverse Theater, the Tuttleman Library at Gratz College, the Tuttleman Chapel at Temple Adath Israel, the Tuttleman Imaging Center at Graduate Hospital, and the Tuttleman Sculpture Gallery at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.
