This year’s James S. White Scholarship for a resident assistant was awarded to marketing junior Sioban V. Massiah.

Established in 1999 when Temple named the residence hall at Broad and Diamond streets in honor of trustee and former Executive Vice President James White, the $1,000 award is given annually to a returning RA assigned to White Hall who mirrors White’s “personal integrity, professional excellence and patient compassion,” according to the application materials.

Massiah, from New York, told the judges in her application that she “learned and matured as a person as a result of being an RA in White Hall” and that she embraced the responsibility of being a role model there.

Massiah also stressed that she wants the North Philadelphia community to know that “the White Hall residents want to be a part of the community.”
