All University HSC Guaranteed Access Parkers

Michael J. Sher, Chief of Staff, TUHS
James M. Cirillo, Director of Parking Services

DATE: January 19, 2006

SUBJECT: Weekend Parking Reciprocity Now Limited To TUHS Ontario West Garage

Over the past several months, University and Health System administration have worked closely to address parking issues throughout the Health Sciences Campus. Our goals in this effort are clearly aligned, providing access and capacity for patients, students, visitors and all employees. With that in mind, we would like to inform you of several significant changes, and improvements that will impact HSC guaranteed access students and employees parking on campus on Saturdays and Sundays.

Effective January 20, 2006, all University HSC guaranteed access student and employee parkers currently parking, on Saturdays and Sundays, in University parking facilities, including Carlisle West Garage, Tioga West Area, or Battersby Area, will now park in the TUHS Ontario West Parking Garage, on Saturdays and Sundays. Please be advised that you will no longer be permitted in either TUCMC or the Ontario East Garages.

The TUHS Ontario West Garage is located on Ontario Street, between Broad Street and 15th Street and is now open 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. All University HSC guaranteed access student and employee parkers who have a need to park on weekends will be provided reciprocity, at no additional cost, and will have their hangtags honored at the Ontario West Garage between the hours of 4PM on Friday until 6AM on Monday. After 6AM,  Monday morning, all parkers who have been provided reciprocity at Ontario West are expected to return to their assigned parking areas. Otherwise, daily TUHS parking rates will be in effect.

Additionally, all on-call personnel, who are assigned to the Carlisle West Garage, and who arrive anytime Friday, should utilize the TUHS Ontario West Garage if they expect to leave after the Carlisle West Garage has closed at 10PM, and prior to its opening at 5AM Monday morning. As you know, the Carlisle West Garage is closed during the weekend, and you must call Temple University Police in order to remove your car on either Saturday or Sunday. Once again, hangtags will be honored and reciprocity will be afforded to individuals parking in Ontario West who are unable to leave during normal business hours.

Your safety is also a critical concern and, to that end, we continue to increase the presence of campus security and work towards creating a safer environment throughout the HSC. Recent enhancements in security include increasing coverage at Broad and Ontario Streets to twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. An additional security officer will be present in the area between Broad and 15th Streets between 5PM and 1AM, seven days a week. Finally, lighting in and around the Ontario West and Carlisle West Garages has also been improved. As always, a security escort service is available during the hours of darkness from the Temple University Police by telephoning 2-COPS (215-707-2677).

All parkers are advised to clearly display their current parking hangtag and have their Temple ID card available for inspection and/or use, whenever they enter the Ontario West Garage during the weekend hours that reciprocity is provided.

Effective Friday, January 20, 2006, all University HSC and TUHS guaranteed access parkers are advised that, unless they are assigned to either the TUHS Ontario East Garage or the TUHS CMC Garage, use of these garages, at any time, will result in the assessment of daily parking fees.

If you have any questions, we ask that you contact either the University Parking Services Office at 215-707-2277 or the TUHS Parking Services Office at 215-707-6868.

We appreciate your cooperation and assistance in helping us improve services and parking for our patients, families and staff.

            Thank you.
