Provost Ira M. Schwartz has announced that Ronald J. Tallarida will step down as vice provost for faculty affairs effective July 31 to return to the faculty and concentrate on his research. While serving as an administrator, Tallarida maintained an active research program with several externally funded grants.

Tallarida has been a faculty member at the School of Medicine since 1967. His research interests include the mathematical modeling of biological systems, drug-receptor kinetics and their control, drug interactions and synergism, application to opioid receptors and vascular smooth muscle.

“I am delighted that a researcher of Ron's stature was willing to serve in this position, even for a year,” Schwartz said. “I do understand his yearning to go back to his research on a full-time basis because I've experienced those pangs myself."

Schwartz is consulting with the Faculty Senate’s Committee on Administrative and Trustee Appointments regarding nominations for this position, and also welcomes nominations of other faculty who might be willing to serve. Tallarida has agreed to work with the incoming vice provost during the month of August.

Nominations and a complete CV, if possible, for the position of vice provost for faculty affairs can be sent to the Office of Provost by mail to 401 Conwell Hall, or by e-mail to provost@temple.edu. All nominations should be submitted by July 1.
