Postal Service standardizes
return address placement on envelopes
To: All Departments
From: Temple Post Office
Date: April 25, 2005
Subject: Bad Return Address Placement
In order to avoid mail-processing delays, we ask that your department adopt the standard placement of the return address as illustrated. Changes in United States Postal Service standards, due to the introduction of new technology, mandate a standardized business envelope format. In future purchases of letterhead envelopes, it is necessary to have the return address in the upper-left-hand corner of the envelope.
Envelopes that do not meet this standard could result in delayed mail. If a department needs to continue using its remaining stock of older envelopes that do not meet the standard, it is important to have the pre-printed return address covered with a white label and re-written, by hand, in the upper-left-hand corner of the envelope
If you have any questions, please contact the Temple Post Office at 204-7192. Thankyou.
