Temple co-hosts forum honoring Nambu
Frank Wilczek (left) of the Massachusetts Institute for Technology and the 2004 recipient of the Nobel Prize for Physics, addressed a standing-room-only audience April 21 in the Liacouras Center’s Fox-Gittis Room as part of the annual Franklin Awards celebration.
Wilczek was one of two physics Nobel laureates who presented at the public symposium — co-hosted by the College of Science and Technology and The Franklin Institute — honoring the research achievements of physicist Yoichiro Nambu, the Harry Pratt Judson Distinguished Service Professor Emeritus at the University of Chicago.
Nambu (below, center), who listened to the lecture alongside Franklin Institute Vice President Philip W. Hammer (left) and Temple physics chair C. J. Martoff (right), received the 2005 Franklin Medal for his contributions to physics.
Among science’s highest honors, the Franklin Institute Awards identify individuals whose great innovations have benefited humanity, advanced science, launched new fields of inquiry and deepened our understanding of the universe.
Previous recipients of the Franklin Medal in Physics include Niels Bohr and Albert Einstein.
