Festival of Young Musicians starts Friday
Beginning Friday, April 22, the Boyer College of Music and Dance’s Music Preparatory Division will host its 16th annual Festival of Young Musicians, which culminates in a gala concert on Saturday, April 30.
The concerts feature students in the Center for Gifted Young Musicians, whose 200 instrumentalists and singers, ranging in age from 7 to 17, are selected by audition.
Showcase of Chamber Ensembles:
• Friday, April 22: 7:30 p.m.: Featuring the Youth Chamber Orchestra. Rock Hall.
Singular Strings:
• Saturday, April 23: 3 p.m. Featuring Baroque Players and Classic Strings. Davyd Booth, conductor. Tomlinson Theater.
Captivating Choristers:
• Monday, April 25: 7:30 p.m. Featuring Temple University Music Prep Children’s Choir and Holly Phares, choral music director and conductor. Tomlinson Theater.
Gala Concert:
• Saturday, April 30: 7:30 p.m. Featuring Youth Chamber Orchestra and Temple University
Music Prep Children’s Choir. Luis Biava, instrumental music director and conductor; Holly Phares, choral music director. Philadelphia Cathedral, 38th and Chestnut streets.
