Ways to give during the 2004 holiday season

The Temple community provides many opportunities to help the less fortunate this holiday season.

Blanket and Food Drive
Through Dec. 2, Tuesdays and Thursdays:
The Temple University Community Service Association is hosting a drive for Blankets, clothes and canned goods to help runaway teenagers and needy children in the Philadelphia area. For more information, please contact Kristina Ibanez, kibanez@temple.edu.

Toy Drive
Through Dec. 3:
The Ambler Student Government Association is sponsoring a drive for new, unwrapped toys to benefit the children of St. Mary's Villa in Ambler. For more information, contact the Student Government Association at 215-283-1283.
Ambler Campus, in Bright Hall Lounge across from the Student Activities Office, and in West Hall.

Coats and Cans Drive
Through Dec. 6:
Gamma Sigma Sigma is collecting warm winter coats and canned goods to help restock the Greater Philadelphia Food Bank after Thanksgiving. Gamma Sigma Sigma members will also reach out to the community with a canned food donation drive at the Acme supermarket on Butler Pike in Ambler Borough on Saturday, Dec. 4. A collection box is located at Ambler Campus, Bright Hall Lounge.

Toy Drive
Through Dec. 6: Temple’s chapters of theRho Chi Honor Society, Pennsylvania Society of Health-Systems Pharmacists, Lambda Kappa Sigma Professional Fraternity, Kappa Psi Professional Fraternity and Phi Delta Chi Professional Fraternity are collecting new, unwrapped toys and stuffed animals for children at the Fox Chase Cancer Center. Holiday Toy and Book Drive
Through Dec. 10: The Division of Student Affairs' Division Relations Committee is collecting new, unwrapped toys and books. For more information, contact the Office of Student Activities at 204-7131.
Collection bins are available in student affairs departmental offices (Housing, Disability Resources and Services, THEO, Student Activities, the Student Assistance Center, Tuttleman Counseling Services, International Services, Career Development Services, Recreation Services, the Dean of Students office, the Vice President's office, and the Russell Conwell Center).

Toy Drive
Through Dec. 10:
The Ambler Criminal Justice Society (ACJS) is collecting "wish list" items, such as dolls and doll clothing, building toys, games, infant and toddler toys, art supplies, and sports equipment, for children ages 3 to 14 at Laurel House. All toys should be new and unwrapped. Laurel House also asks donors to consider giving gift cards for local retail stores, drug stores and supermarkets. For more information, please contact lisawil@temple.edu. Location: Collection boxes at Ambler Campus, Bright Hall, Student Activities Office, and the West Hall breezeway. ACJS members will also have a table set up in the hallway of Bright Hall on Tuesday, Nov. 30, and Wednesday, Dec. 1, between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Toy Drive
December 10, 13, and 14: The Temple Ambler Owl Reach student organization is sponsoring a toy drive to help support the Salvation Army’s efforts to bring a happy holiday to families throughout the Philadelphia region. All gifts must be new and unwrapped. Owl Reach is a new student organization dedicated to community service. For more information about this holiday toy drive, contact Luke Kasitz, Owl Reach President, at amish2020@yahoo.com.
Location: Ambler Campus Dining Center. Pick an ornament from the Owl Reach Christmas tree. Each ornament includes a child’s name, age, and desired gift. Take the bottom half of the ornament, purchase the gift, and drop it off on the specified dates.

Holiday Children's Party
Dec. 11, 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
The Department of Campus Safety Services hosts its annual children's party in which it partners with the local community to shed light on neighborhood children during the holiday season.

Gilbane's Operation Santa Claus Toy Drive
Through Dec. 13:
Gilbane Building Company is sponsoring its third annual toy drive to benefit Temple Children's Hospital and local middle schools. Toy donations should be new and unwrapped. For more information, call Gail Johnson at 267-256-4500.
