Ways to Give

Throughout December, the Temple community is reaching out to help make the holidays a little brighter for the less fortunate

Toy drive
Dec. 1 through Dec. 12: The Temple Ambler Owl Reach student organization is sponsoring a toy drive to help support the Salvation Army's efforts to bring a happy holiday to families throughout the Philadelphia region. All gifts must be new and unwrapped. For more information, e-mail owlreach@gmail.com or call 484-941-2450.
Location: Ambler Campus, Bright Hall lounge. Pick an ornament from the "Angel Tree." Each ornament includes a child's name, age and desired gift. Take the bottom half of the ornament, purchase the gift, and drop it off on the specified dates.

Toy drive
Through Dec. 5: The Ambler Campus chapter of the Criminal Justice Society will sponsor a toy drive benefiting the Philadelphia Child Advocacy Canter. Students, faculty, staff and the public are invited to donate new, unwrapped toys. For more information, contact 267-468-8913 or e-mail niashiaf@temple.edu.
Location: Donations will be collected as Ambler Campus in Bright Hall lounge and the East Residence Hall lobby.

Box top drive
Through Dec. 5: The Society for Human Resource Management of Ambler Campus is asking for the donation of box tops found on all General Mills cereal products to benefit the Wissahickon Middle School. The school, which participates in the Box Tops for Education Program, will be awarded 10 cents for each box top collected. For more information, contact kym@temple.edu.
Location: Collection boxes will be placed at Ambler Campus in the East Residence Hall, Bright Hall Lounge, Widener Hall and Dixon Hall.

Food drive
Through Dec. 7: Recreation Services is sponsoring a nonperishable food drive to benefit the Greater Philadelphia Food Bank.
Location: Collection boxes will be placed in the main office of McGonigle Hall, the lobby of the IBC Student Recreation Center, the lobby of the Student Pavilion and the lobby of the pool.

Cell phone drive
Through Dec. 7: Recreation Services is collecting cell phones and accessories that are shipped to an organization that refurbishes them and distributes them to battered or in-danger women for emergency use.
Location: Two donation boxes are located in the lobby of the IBS Student Recreation Center and the lobby of the Student Pavilion.

Holiday children's party
Dec. 10, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.: The Department of Campus Safety Services hosts its annual children's party, in which it partners with the local community to shed light on neighborhood children during the holiday season.
Location: Student Center Annex, second floor.

'Operation Feed the Hungry' food campaign
Through Dec. 18: The Office of Facilities Management is sponsoring a food drive to support local community groups. Donations of nonperishables are needed. Monetary donations should be made payable to "Operation Feed the Hungry" and forwarded to the Office of Facilities Management, 1009 W. Montgomery Ave. Last year, more than 32,000 meals were provided.  For more information, call Jesse Wagner at 215-204-1385 or Sandi Marrero 215-204-7797.
Location: Designated food donation boxes will be placed at Parking Services (Student Center, lower level), Campus Safety Services (12th Street and Montgomery Avenue) and other areas around Main Campus.

Toy drive
Through Dec. 25: The Family Services Department is accepting donations of new, unwrapped gifts that will be distributed to patients who are hospitalized at the Temple Children's Hospital during the holidays. If you would like to participate, contact Ernie Bristow in Family Services at 215-707-6145.
