The choreography of Temple alumni Tom Price and Julia Ritter (pictured with composer and dancer Daniel Clifton) will be featured during an Alumni Dance Concert presented by the Boyer College of Music and Dance on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 8 and 9.
Price and his dance troupe, tompricedance, will perform a collection of works including Drop, a duet “full of adrenaline pumped and quirky, raw, physical phrases” performed to the music of Radiohead; Thundering Silence, a group dance balancing between intense physicality and soft intimacy; Nothing Bites Like I Do, a solo work performed by Price to the music of Danzig; the premiere of Zingiber, a high-energy duet featuring African movement influences; and an excerpt from Price’s master’s concert titled Hiraeth.
Ritter’s company, Julia Ritter Performance Group, will be presenting three works set to original music, including Sentinel, a solo dance set to a score by composer Dan Martin with vocals by Ritter, in which a lone figure “traverses the landscape and undergoes a ritual of transformation from hypersensitivity to surrender”; excerpts from Ritter’s newest work, The Tetralogy of Alone, in which archetypes are deconstructed and a recluse, a cowboy and a lounge singer, among others, meet in a vast space, negotiating the desire that is inherent in loneliness; and, Blue Honey Sky, Last Spring, a group dance inspired by Ritter’s travels by train throughout Europe, which “abstractly displays the ephemeral nature of our time spent in one another’s presence.”
Performances begin at 8 p.m. at the Conwell Dance Theater, fifth floor of Conwell Hall, Broad Street and Montgomery Avenue.
Tickets are $10 for general admission and $8 for students and seniors. Temple students with a GAF sticker are admitted free. Cash-only, advance ticket sales are available at the Liacouras Center box office, 1776 N.
