Another element of the plan developed using the Sustainability Task Force Report focuses on the development of fundamental and applied sustainability research programs, including cross-disciplinary programs.  On this page you can find resources regarding current research opportunities and, also, past research projects.

2009/2010 Undergraduate Internship/ Scholarship/ Award Opportunities

EPA Greater Research Opportunities (GRO) Fellowships for Undergraduate Environmental Study
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is offering research fellowships to undergraduate students pursuing environmental studies.
Application Deadline: December 10, 2009

Echoing Green Fellowship
12-20 new social entrepreneurs will be selected who wish to start their own non-profit organization that delivers bold solutions. Winners will receive $60,000 over a two year period. Must be 18 or older to apply.
Application Deadline: December 2, 2009

Do Something Awards
1 winner to receive $100,000 and 4 winners to receive $10,000 towards their organization or cause which improves the lives of others, empowers others in their community, and combating a problem in his/her community.
Application Deadline: December 15, 2009

US EPA P3 Awards
A national student design competition for research, development, and design solutions to create sustainability solutions for people, prosperity, and the planet for the issue areas of Energy, Built Environment, Materials and Chemicals, Water, and Agriculture. 40 grant awards selected for Phase I and 6 grant awards for Phase II, for a total of $850,000 for all awards.
Application Deadline: January 5, 2010

Udall Scholarship
The Morris K. Udall Scholarship annually awards 80 scholarships of up to $5000 and 50 honorable mentions of $350 to college-level Sophomores and Juniors committed to careers related to the environment. Award money is to be used for educational expenses. 
Application Deadline: March 2, 2010 (note that institutional deadlines may be earlier)

Wild Gift
5 projects selected to receive $8-15,000 for a 17 month project that promotes "stewardship of wild natures and development of sustainable communities." Applicants must be 21-30 years of age.
Application Deadline: April 1, 2010

Brower Youth Award
Recognizes 6 young people annually with a $3,000 prize for their activism and achievements in the fields of the environment and environmental justice. Activists 13-22 years old living in North America are encouraged to apply.
Application Deadline: May 2010 (formal deadline to be determined)
