Temple Establishes Office of Sustainability

Temple University has established a new administrative unit to lead the its efforts to foster a pervasive culture of environmental responsibility throughout the university. Opened July 1, 2008, the office is directed by Sandra J. McDade, who will work with students, faculty and staff to develop and implement a comprehensive sustainability strategy and guide Temple's efforts to establish new academic programs focused on sustainability.

President Hart Signs Presidents Climate Commitment

In April of 2008, Temple University proudly joined more than 500 colleges and universities around the world that have made reducing their impact on the world’s climate a top priority by signing the American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment. 

Temple M.B.A. Students Integrate Business and Social Issues

Held in May, Temple’s third annual Social Entrepreneurship Conference demonstrated that environmental and social issues are not simply political talking points, but strong considerations in business practices and investments. Coordinated by Fox School of Business MBA students, the conference considered the financial aspects of running a socially responsible corporation.

Ted Turner Talks Green at Temple

In an April forum hosted by the School of Tourism and Hospitality Management, media mogul and entrepreneur Ted Turner, executive in residence, emphasized the importance of environmental sustainability in the tourism and hospitality industry.

Temple University Ambler Welcomes Largest Crowd in History of Annual EarthFest

More than 12,000 visitors and more than 85 exhibitors participated in Temple University Ambler’s annual EarthFest, which promotes environmental awareness using sustainable concepts, methods, and practices to protect and preserve the environment.

Temple Places in RecycleMania for Second Year

Temple students, faculty and staff collected more than 217 tons of recyclable materials as part of RecycleMania, a 10-week campus competition to increase recycling participation and heighten awareness of waste management and recycling.  Out of 21 participating Pennsylvania schools, Temple came in second in the Gorilla Prize competition, which recognizes the school that collects the highest gross tonnage of material regardless of campus population.

Student Organization Helps New Food Truck Go Organic

With the help of Temple Students for Responsible Business, a new food truck has pulled up as Temple’s first organic food outlet.
