Academic Initiatives

A significant portion of Temple University's sustainability strategy is focused on increasing sustainability awareness throughout the curriculum and developing and promoting new sustainability curricular initiatives.
The Sustainability Task Force report calls for the development of robust academic initiatives that provide basic knowledge of the environmental, social and economic issues, along with discipline-specific courses that equip students with the tools to tackle sustainability problems.

The university has a range of environmental and sustainability-related courses at its Main, Ambler and Health Science campuses. In September of 2008, Temple offered 46 undergraduate courses, 22 graduate courses and 12 General Education courses focusing on the environment and sustainability. Several new initiatives are also underway to develop interdisciplinary programs in environmental and sustainability-related sciences.
