Scholarship, Fellowship,Research and Internship OpportunitiesThere are a number of funding opportunities available to undergraduates beyond the scholarship and financial aid award provided when they began their undergraduate program. These include scholarships and fellowships, funded summer research opportunities, and internship opportunities. A description of these opportunities is below and links to specific opportunities are to the right. Scholarships and Fellowships There are many scholarships and fellowships available to undergraduates. Some focus on a specific field of study; others are open to students in any field. Some provide financial support for study abroad; others for continuing studies at your home institution. Some - undergraduate scholarships - provide funding for you while you are completing your undergraduate degree; others - post-graduate scholarships - you apply for while you are an undergraduate for funding to continue your education after you have completed your undergraduate degree. Scholarships and fellowships typically have specific eligibilit requirements such as a specific number of hours or gpa. Nearly all require a good to excellent academic record; some expect involvment in research or community service or leadership experience; a few also consider financial need. Some of the scholarship opportunities available through Temple University can be found below. Funded summer research opportunities A summer research experience provides an ideal way to develop your understanding of field of study, learn how to do research in the field, and explore your interests in continuing your education beyond your undergraduate degree. While many of the opportunities are in science and bio-medical research, there are opportunities for students in a number of other areas of study. Funding often includes a stipend, a housing and board allowance, and the cost of travel to the research location. If you are interested, you should begin exploring the opportunities in the Fall when the programs for the following summer begin to be posted, and apply early. Internships opportunities Internships provide a valuable experiential learning opportunity - a time to learn more about how organizations work and how you can make a difference. There are two basic types of internships - paid and unpaid. Most of the opportunities listed are paid opportunities that provide work experience in a particular field of study or an organization focused on a particular issue, topic, or concern. Some provide experiences in government-related agencies; others in non-profit organizations. A few also provide scholarship support for successful interns. Most of the opportunities listed in the link at the right are in Washington, D.C., and New York. There are likely others available locally in your major; consult with your department to find out more about those opportunities. Use the links to the right to explore internship, scholarship, fellowship, and other funding opportunities available through non-Temple institutions, organizations, and foundations.
The Camille and Bill Cosby Scholarship in Science 2009-10 for rising juniors or seniors majoring in the natural sciences. Candidates must have completed a current FAFSA form and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 For rising juniors, the scholarship will continue for a second and final year if the student maintains a 3.0 GPA and good academic progress toward his or her degree. Study Abroad Scholarships - Temple University's International Programs office provides information on a range of funding opportunities to support study abroad. Some funding opportunities are for Temple students only; others are available to Temple students through various other organizations and institutions.
