Undergraduate Research Incentive Fund

Research/Creative Project grant applications submitted in the fall should be for projects to be undertaken during Winter Break or Spring semester; those submitted in the spring should be for projects to be undertaken during Summer break or Fall semester.

Travel grants to present at a conference will be accepted on a rolling basis.

Maximum research grant is $1,500; maximum travel grant is $1,000.
2008-09 Research/Creative Project Deadlines:
- October 17,2008 for Projects during Winter Break and Spring (09).
- March 20, 2009 for Projects during Summer (09) and Fall (09) .

The Environment and Sustainability
Undergraduates interested in undertaking projects related to any aspect of the ENVIRONMENT and SUSTAINABILITY are especially encouraged to submit a project proposal. Research/creative projects from any disciplinary perspective are welcomed.
Call for Project Proposals
The Undergraduate Research Incentive Fund (URIF) provides funding support to full-time undergraduate students for research and creative projects and for participation in professional conferences.
General Guidelines:
- Applicants must be full-time undergraduates at the time of the application and during the grant period.
- Applications may be for individual or team projects. For team projects, all members must be full-time undergraduates during the grant period.
- Students may recieve only one award in an academic year.
- Students are eligible for only one funded grant per research project.
- The maximum research grant award is $1,500; maximum travel grant award is $1,000. Requests may be modified as based on an assessment of budget proposal and/or the availability of resources.
In addition, there are specific guidelines for each grant area.
Research/Creative Project Grants:
- Applicants must identify a faculty mentor.
- The faculty mentor must provide a letter of support confirming the appropriateness of the research or creative project. The substance of this letter will be a significant element in the competitive selection process.
- Additional letters of support (particularly from the Department Chair and/or School/College Dean) are not required but strongly recommended.
- Applications for salaries, stipends or the purchase of equipment will not be considered.
- Maximum grant: $1,500.
- Deadlines during the 2008-09AY for research or creative projects: October 17 for Winter Break and Spring term projects, and March 20 for Summer and Fall (2009) term projects.
- Applicants are typically notified in 2-3 weeks.
Travel Grants:
- Travel to a conference is supported only when the student is presenting.
- Applications should be submitted at least four (4) weeks prior to the travel date. Applications submitted retroactively will not be considered.
- Applications for travel grants can be submitted without notification of acceptance to present, but grant decisions will not be made until notification of acceptance to present has been provided.
- Travel arrangements are subject to Temple's travel policy and procedure.
- Maximum grant: $1,000.
- Travel grant requests will be considered at any time during the year.
- Applicants are typically notified within ten (10) business days.
