DISTANCE LEARNING FACULTY NEWSLETTER VOL 2

Welcome to the second edition of the Distance Education Faculty Newsletter! This newsletter features interviews from a Distance Learning professor as well as his student who is taking the course from overseas in Afghanistan. We have also been working throughout the summer to provide you with resources, tips, and events to further your knowledge of Distance Learning education. It is our goal to have every online course in the Fall using technologies such as WIMBA and CollegeAnywhere, so please contact us prior to the start of the Fall semester if you still need these services activated for your course. Thank you and enjoy the newsletter!

- Dominique Kliger and Melanie Gebhardt

Distance Learning Interviews

We had the opportunity to interview a Temple Distance Learning student named Ryan Greene who is currently serving in the military overseas in Afghanistan, as well as his Professor, Paul Swann. Click the links below to hear more about their experiences and how they were able to communicate through online learning tools in order to complete the course.

How To: bring a guest speaker to your online class!

 1. Navigate to your WIMBA Liveclassroom page in Blackboard

2. Provide the link next to "Guest Access Link" to your guest speaker (click on image at left)

3. Your guest speaker will be prompted for a name when clicking the link. The guest is not required to enter a username and password to enter the room, only a name. Once the guest hits "Enter", he/she may need to run the Liveclassroom Wizard to make sure audio and video equipment are being recognized. They will then be able to enter your Liveclassroom and communicate with the students. They will not be granted administrator privileges.

Conversational Series & Useful Information:

Please join us during the Fall semester for a virtual coffee hour, where you can discuss online learning with other faculty members! The virtual coffee hour will be held every Thursday from noon to 1pm. To join, simply visit This Liveclassroom Link. You can also join the room via telephone by calling (201)-549-7592 and entering 15915387 as a pin number. No login id and passwords are needed to join this live classroom.

We are also pleased to announce that a new contract with WHYY/CollegeAnywhere has been signed, which now includes lots of PBS video titles. If you have not yet requested access to College Anywhere videos, please contact us at online@temple.edu
