How did the location enhance your academic experience?
The location enhanced my academic experience for Italian especially. I did not know any Italian prior to going, and I had to catch on quickly in order to communicate with the natives, whether it was on the bus or in a grocery store. As the semester progressed, the easier it became for me to engage with the Italians and get around.
How do you see this experience affecting your future?
I promised myself that I will go to Rome again very soon, and I am saving up. Also, I am more eager to travel to as many places internationally as possible. I feel as though traveling is one of the best things you can do in life.
How did you fund your study abroad experience?
My study abroad experience was funded by making dozens of shirts for various organizations, scholarship funding, and assistance from several family members.
How was the experience of studying the language in the classroom (in high school or in college) prior to studying abroad different from the experience of studying the language in and outside of the classroom once you were abroad?
The difference between studying a language abroad from studying it in the U.S. was that it was much more practical abroad. After a lesson, I could actually go to a Piazza and experiment with what I just learned in the classroom, whereas in the U.S. it would not be as easy to find a native of the language I was learning.
