Italy Semester/Year Program

Application Procedures

ELIGIBILITY

Eligibility is limited to those students who:

  • will be at least 19 years old by the starting date of study at Temple Rome.
  • are currently matriculated as full-time students and will have completed at least two years of college-level study with a satisfactory scholastic average (minimum 2.75 cumulative average on a 4.0 scale from all colleges/universities attended).
  • intend a full-time program of study and at Temple University Rome and will be applying credits earned towards a degree.

Admission Requirements for Architecture/Landscape Architecture

In addition to the application form, Architecture/Landscape Architecture students must submit a portfolio of ten to fifteen 8 1/2" x 11" color copies of their most recent studio work, clipped together. Do not submit originals (as the portfolio is forwarded to Rome) or use binders or folders. Photocopies must be fully labeled on accompanying sheets identifying each discrete image or project: nature of the design challenge, length of time in studio, what year and semester, name of the critic, etc.

Admission Requirements for International Business

Most business courses assume students have at minimum an introductory-level background in the area of study. Specific prerequisites are included with each course description.

Admission Requirements for Visual Arts

To be considered for the Visual Arts program, undergraduate applicants must have completed a minimum of 18 semester hours, or the equivalent, of studio art courses. Non-Temple applicants are asked to submit a portfolio at the time of application, which is used to determine a student’s eligibility for the Visual Arts program and for advanced visual arts courses. An acceptable portfolio should demonstrate achievement in the media for the courses to which the student is applying. The applicant is asked to submit a CD-R with jpeg files of works. No bulky shipments will be accepted, and the CD-R will not be returned. The portfolio should be sent directly to International Programs, 200 Tuttleman Learning Center, 1809 N. 13th St., Philadelphia, PA 19122. No responsibility for the portfolio can be assumed by Temple University.

MFA Rome Admission Procedures

Graduate students wishing to study in the Visual Arts program must be matriculated in an MFA program. Students applying to the MFA program at Tyler may contact International Programs as soon as they are admitted to Tyler’s MFA program and must complete the regular Temple University Rome application forms from the International Programs website. Students already enrolled in MFA programs may contact International Programs directly regarding participation in the Rome program.

Please note that non-Temple MFA students are accepted into Temple Rome as non-matriculated graduate students. Non-matriculated graduate students may take certain upper level undergraduate studio courses for graduate credit, but are not
eligible to take graduate studio courses.

Submissions
Each item you need to submit as part of your application will appear on your Program Home Page. Please note that the following submissions will be required.

           All applicants:

  • Two academic recommendations. One of these must be from a faculty member in your major discipline. The other need not be from a faculty member who has taught you in a class, but must be from someone who knows you in an academic context, i.e. an administrator, advisor, or department chair. Recommendation requests will be made online, and your recommender will be notified via email. Please be sure to talk to him or her prior to requesting the recommendation. Your recommender will have the option of submitting your recommendation online or on paper.
  • All students applying to the Architecture program track: information about additional submissions can be found in the Eligibility section above.

    Non-Temple students:
  • Official transcripts from all colleges/universities attended to date.
  • Home College/University Approval Form indicating you have received approval from your home institution to study at Temple Rome.
